First Meeting of the Fall 2003 Semester - 9/18/2003

Our first meeting of the year was a tremendous success. We had 25 people attend which is hands down the biggest turn out we have ever had at a meeting. We gave a general introduction to Linux, covering both the philosphical and the technical merits of the system. We discussed plans regarding future Install-a-thons as well as a possible showing of Revolution OS in the Javits Lecture Center. We answered many questions regarding the Linux system and Open Source software. However, being caught up in the excitement of such a large turn out, I didn't really take any pictures. The pictures that I did take are below and show the horrible conditions that the room was in when I got there. I would like to personally thank Campus Catering Services for leaving coffee dispensers on the table, and coffee stained table cloths lying both on the table and bundled up in the corner of the room. Not pictured are overflowing garbage cans and half-drank cans of diet coke. All of these factors no doubt aided in the creation of the cock-roach zoo which also existed in the room. We're going to look into getting a meeting room through the SAC rather than through the CS department, because these conditions are both insulting and unsanitary, and because we need a network connection. Enjoy the pictures below, click on them to see them bigger.

Coffee Stains left by Campus Catering Services I wonder if Campus Catering Services even knows that these things are missing.

A cockroach in its native habitat Here's a shot of a cockroach in its native habitat. I wonder if he is interested in Linux at all.
